BSC Frequently Asked Questions
-
BSC is a collection of volunteer-led committees that partner with the school to make Broadway a welcoming, vibrant place. Committees focus on everything from campus beautification to cultural events, safety, and supporting classrooms.
-
No. A PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is part of a national organization with formal bylaws, membership dues, and state/national reporting requirements. Broadway does not have a PTA. Instead, we have the Broadway School Committees (BSC), which are volunteer-led groups created by and for our school. BSC focuses on hands-on projects like beautification, cultural events, JEDI, and family engagement. Unlike a PTA, BSC does not manage money or follow state/national rules — it simply provides parents and caregivers with a direct way to support our school community.
-
FOBES is our independent nonprofit booster club that focuses on fundraising and managing money for the school. BSC, on the other hand, organizes hands-on projects, community activities, and cultural celebrations. Together, they complement each other to support our students in different ways.
-
Current committees include: Beautification, JEDI, Cultural Events, Lost & Found, Library, Recruiting, Safety, and Room Parents.
-
Each committee has parent volunteers who serve as leads or co-leads. They work closely with the school administration to make sure activities are aligned with Broadway’s needs.
-
No. All fundraising and finances are managed by FOBES. BSC focuses on time, talent, and volunteer power to bring programs and projects to life.
-
It depends! Some committees may ask for just a few hours during the year (for example, helping decorate for a cultural event), while others may involve more ongoing commitment. Parents can choose the level of involvement that fits their schedule.
-
Absolutely! Many families choose to join one committee, while others help across multiple groups. It’s flexible and based on your interests.
-
Look out for sign-up opportunities at the start of the school year, or contact the school office/committee leads anytime. There’s always room for more helping hands!
